The sector of the leather occupies a strategic place in the Moroccan economy with a significant weight in jobs (7 %) and a contribution important for the industrial exports (4,5 %). Within the framework of the Program Emergence, it is considered as one of the seven world professions in Morocco.
The Moroccan industry of the leather recovers diversified activities: tannery and mégisseries, Tanning and travel goods, leather Clothes and the Shoe which remains the main activity of the sector in terms of productions (75 %), exports (80 %), by the added value (79 %) and investments (86 %).
Leather industries, although present on the whole Moroccan territory, are in great majority situated in the region of Big Casablanca and in the city of Fes (respectively 54 % and 34 % of manufacturing units).
The differentiation and the rise in the range, the co-traitance and the higher value-added finished product, the innovation and the creativity, the ability to react and the service, establish the weft on which the current and future strategy of the sector rests.
